In a nutshell
Belbin Team Roles
Belbin Team Roles is one of the most useful tools I know for product managers - not because it tells you whether you’re good at your job, but because it tells you something more useful: how you naturally tend to think and contribute, and where you’re likely to need support. Some product managers are naturally big-picture thinkers. They’re excellent at vision and strategy but can underestimate the detail work that makes things actually ship. Others are deeply detail-oriented and thorough - which makes them great at delivery but can make it harder to see the forest for the trees. Most people are somewhere in between, with a mix of natural strengths and learned behaviours. Knowing which you are - and understanding it clearly enough to talk about it - is genuinely useful for your own development and for working with the people around you.

What a Belbin session includes
The Belbin Self-Perception Inventory - a short questionnaire you complete before the session. An individual debrief with me (certified Belbin practitioner) - usually 60 to 90 minutes - covering:

Your natural team role preferences
and what they mean in a product context
🎣
Where your strengths show up most clearly
in product work
🏓
The areas where your natural style
creates blind spots or friction
🤖
How to use this understanding
to grow in your current role or design your next one

How your profile affects how you work
with engineers, designers and stakeholders

FAQ
Do I need to have heard of Belbin before?
No. I’ll explain everything in the session. The only thing you need is to be curious about how you work.
How is this different from a personality test?
Belbin measures behaviour, not personality. It looks at how you tend to contribute in a team context, which is more useful for work than a personality type label.
Can I do this as part of my team?
Yes - team Belbin is part of the Product Management Audit. If you want to run it for a team separately, get in touch and we’ll find the right format.
An individual Belbin session stands on its own.

Who this is for
Product managers at any stage
From people new to the role
trying to figure out how they fit,
to senior PMs and CPOs
who want a clearer language for how they work and lead.
It’s also part of the Product Management Audit
I run at the start of fractional CPO engagements - there it maps the whole team, not just individuals.
But you don’t need to be in that context to do it.
